Are you entitled to Concessionary Travel?
===============================================VALE ROYAL BOROUGH COUNCIL
MEDIA RELEASE
Tuesday 21st November 2006-12-10
Are you entitled to concessionary travel?
People over 60 and disabled people are being reminded that they are able to travel on public transport for less.
Vale Royal Borough Council introduced an improved concessionary travel scheme earlier this year, however, whilst the numbers using it has gone up, not everyone is making use of the benefit.
Under the scheme, residents can chose from one of the following travel options: -
Free local bus travel after 9.30 am weekdays and at weekends and half bus travel before 9.30 weekdays.
£70 worth of taxi vouchers, doubled from last year?s £35 worth. Eligible residents must live in a village with no bus service. A list of villages covered by this is available from the Council. Vouchers are not available to people who hold a valid driving licence and own a car.
The Council has also approved the reduction in the cost of a railcard from £12 to only £2.50. The card entitles holders to one-third off the fare for most rail services.
Cllr. Les ford, Councillor for business Management, said: ?This scheme offers our older residents real value for money. It gives them the security of an active life without worrying about the cost?
